Curacao Synagogue 4337.JPG
4 August 2009: The Snoga Synagogue, with its white sand floor inside, was built by Sephardic Portuguese Jews from Amsterdam and Recife, Brazil. The Congregation Mikvé Israel built the original structure in 1692. It was reconstructed in 1732 and is the oldest surviving synagogue building in the western hemisphere. Located in the southern Caribbean, off the coast of Venezuela, Curacao is known for its tourism, excellent scuba diving and snorkeling. Mandatory Credit: Ed Wolfstein Photo
